Frank Gomez – June 22nd

Frank Gomez

Frank “Big Frank” Gomez (born July 23, 1954) is an Austin based American rhythm and blues singer/song writer, guitarist and vocalist. Gomez became known for his guitar playing and vocals in the late 1970s in a band formed with his brothers called Deep Heet, which pioneered Frank’s rock, funk, rhythm and blues fusion. The band’s sound featured his melodic, blues-based guitar lines set against funk rhythms featuring percussion instruments not generally heard in rhythm & blues music. Gomez continued to work in these forms over the following decades and in 2007 created his current project, The Frank Gomez Band. Recording their debut album “Under The Influence” was experienced by a resurgence of popularity for Frank Gomez. He invited legendary artists to perform on the album that included Augie Meyers, Flaco Jimenez, Ruben Ramos, Max Baca, Stefani Montiel and Jerry De La Rosa.

When Frank Gomez decided to create a new album, the legendary guitarist and bandleader thought he was certain about its direction, but while in the studio in October 2009, Gomez had a life altering experience in a way that most can’t even comprehend or fathom; the untimely and tragic death of his only daughter. After an extended leave from recording, Gomez found the strength and determination to go back into the studio. Once the song process got underway, the creation of making this important album became a labor of love for everyone involved. When the project came to completion in 2011, it came to be known as “Soul Resurrection”, described in Frank’s words as “a collection of songs that is a renewal of my music, my band and my life.”

Frank and his seasoned band (recording their second full-length studio album together), have outlasted the 1970s, ’80s. ’90s, and ’00s, and now kick off another decade in the ’10s with a new collection of music.

This year will be a productive year for the band with selective shows across the USA with performances in major venues and festivals in cities such as Houston, Dallas, Austin, Oklahoma City, New Orleans and St. Louis, as well as numerous gigs in small clubs and juke joints of the southern states.

Frank Gomez is heavily influenced by blues-rock guitar icons such as Santana, the Paul Butterfield Blues Band, Wes Montgomery and Johnny Winter, but possesses his own easily recognizable style. Since 1973, Gomez has been using Gibson guitars, which has become his signature. Gomez performs with a personalized red Gibson ES333 and red Custom ES335.

Frank Gomez’s 2011 album, Soul Resurrection, is three years in the making and captures his musical spirit and virtuosity at its peak. The songs have a deep emotional connection and show Frank to be a master at blending blues, jazz, r&b and funk through melody and rhythm. The new collection of music will be available in stores December 2011.

Brittany Shane – May 11th

Brittany Shane

Brittany Shane’s fifth album, “Loud Nights On A Short String” on Painted Lady Records was recently released in Austin, TX. The album was recorded in 11 days during the extra-hot Summer of 2011 at The Finishing School in Austin, Texas. George Reiff (Court Yard Hounds) played bass, Scrappy Jud Newcomb (Ian ‘Mac’ McLagan & The Bump Band) played guitar, Dony Wynn (Robert Palmer) played drums, and Johnny Goudie (Skyrocket) played keyboards. George and Scrappy also co-produced the album.

Brittany grew up in the small town of Baraboo, Wisconsin, discovered her love for performing dance at the tender age of two and a half, and started making music while attending the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Brittany’s first two albums were released in Madison under her maiden name, Safranek. Once Brittany felt that she had reached as far as she could go with her music in Madison (released two CDs, “Out of the Everywhere” and “Moravian Star”, voted Best Live Female Singer/Songwriter in 2000 by Maximum Ink), she decided to move to California, “where rock ‘n roll dreams come true”. Brittany sold one of her guitars for a one-way ticket and an opportunity that landed her in San Francisco. She got her start performing in the Fillmore Lounge in 2001 in San Francisco, playing along acts such as Aimee Mann, Chris Isaak, Travis, Liz Phair and many more. In 2003, after a few years in San Francisco, Brittany (now Shane) released her third album, “Decked Out”, which was voted Top 20 Local CDs by Aidin Vaziri, San Francisco Chronicle Music Critic.

For the next few years, Brittany found success in music placements in both film, TV:
