Our Family & Our Passion
The Fritz family has been making exquisite wines from the gorgeous hills of Emilia Romagna, Italy, for generations, and continues their winemaking tradition in the beautiful Texas Hill Country. Since the turn of the century, Solaro Estate has crafted several award-winning wines with the knowledge of their Italian ancestors–and some good ol’ Texas flair.
Awarded Texas Winery of the Year from 2012-2019, and Texas Hill Country Winery of the Year from 2020-2021, Solaro Estate has exhibited the best of what Texas wine has to offer and has played a crucial role in placing Texas wine regions on the map.

The Solaro Story
1800’s
Winemaking in Italy
Our wine roots began in Emilia Romagna in Italy. Our family has been making wine there for centuries and is still producing wine today!
1909
OUR Family on solaro estate
The Estate has been in our family since 1909 as a working, self-sufficient farm dedicated to agriculture.
2000
Families coming together
Inspired by Barbara’s roots in Franconia, Germany, and Robert’s close ties to his wine-making relatives in Emilia-Romagna, Italy, we got to work making this dream a reality.
2002
barbara & robert bring the wine tradition to texas
With our rocky soil and the Texas heat, and our winemaking background, we knew the ultimate use of our family’s land would be to plant vineyards.
2009
winemaking & tasting room
The Estate vineyards you see today are the result of Robert and Barbara’s detailed planning and the use of modern equipment and the finest technology, the winery was specifically designed to maximize the production of limited quantities of complex and exquisite wines.
Present Day
where we are and where we’re going!
As always, Robert, Barbara, and Erika are dedicated to perpetuating local agriculture, are continuing to expand the vineyards on the Estate, and make award-winning 100% Pure Texas Wines from grape to glass!
